Going hand in hand with technology
Research in all avenues of medical science is dependent on accuracy and limitaitons of technological developments. Integration of both fields , hence, strikes me as the need of time. Health care industry and technology must work in close coordination or better still, as a unit to ensure near-perfection of treatment, care and research.

I really like the explanation given by one of the staff members in the video about why speed is important in healthcare and healthcare research. It is a bit of a counterintuitive concept - sure, we want to have developments faster, but is it mission-critical for these organizations? The answer is yes for one simple reason - we're talking about real patients who need treatment now.

The explanation for how the trial and error process is sped up with these new systems really shines a light on how the technology age will impact the human race. Soon will wonder how we ever made calculations like these on anything but the latest and greatest machines - and that's a wonderful thing.

We do hear a lot of gloom and doom when it comes to the integration of healthcare and technology. It seems the governments are slow to invest in the integration, even though it seems like an easy sell - certainly, politics has a lot to do with this, but I also feel like there's a simple lack of awareness. I wasn't aware of just how difficult it was for hospitals to do the simplest things technology-wise until I read about it here on E2.

Maybe the success of programs like this will help show governments (or at least other big corporations like Dell) that huge gains can be made for a very reasonable investment.  the value in keeping our healthcare methods up to date ought to be self-evident, but hopefully now the proof will also be in the pudding.

I think I might need to use my toes if I wanted to count the number of times the staff used 'interoperability' in this video. Far be it from me to call that a bad thing, though - it's a huge, daunting concern facing healthcare today. I'm continually astounded by how difficult (I hear) it is for hospitals to share information. Putting that in place with something this uniform and this powerful would go a long way.

This is only a small splash in a big pond to start with. It's hard to say if adoption of this technology at one or two research institutions will really make all the difference. It's definitely the right direction to head in, though, and with the cloud infrastructure they discussed in the video in place, they'll be a step ahead either way.

I second that. These avances in new technologies show that there is always hope for humanity and very soon efficient cancer treatments will become a reality. As you said the IT is making discoveries easier and faster in the healcare research.

Faster, better, cheaper
Great update on the program.  This video clearly explains how this program is a platform for the future and a platform for hope for all of us that the technology, science, and care are coming together (finally)!  The momentum is here and growing.  Cancer treatment is going to be faster, cheaper and better!

It is very nice to see that medical science is using technology and started having technical infrastructure to make the field of medicine better and better. This will not only help the medical personnel improv their decision making it will also be good for the patients to be treated. The fast and recent information will help decision making a bit more easier and probalistic.
