Live Video: Embracing Consumerization & Mobile DevicesSara Peters, Editor in Chief | 1/7/2013 |
They're everywhere. They don't even bother to hide anymore. There's probably one in your pocket right now. I speak of course of consumer mobile devices, strolling around your organization's IT environment, jauntily twirling their canes like they own the place. And it isn't just the mobile devices, oh no. It's their cohorts in consumerization -- like public cloud computing and social networking.
Once upon a time you might have simply shut them out of your organization -- blocking social networking sites with your web policies, kicking personal smartphones out of your network, dismissing tablets with a wave of your hand, refusing to acknowledge that users might be right about cloud services' value -- but that time is long gone. In fact, not only should you no longer be afraid of consumer applications and mobile devices, you should be embracing them. Even though they weren't built for business IT doesn't mean they can't work for business IT. Are you having trouble accepting that truth? Have you come to grips with reality but aren't sure how to take the next steps in creating a healthy relationship with consumerization and mobile devices? Then don't miss our next live video event, Embracing Consumerization and Mobile Devices, taking place this Thursday, January 10 at 12:00 p.m. ET. Our guest will be Mike Scovetta, director of advanced technology for a major media network. He is successfully securing his organization while supporting mobility and an array of consumer devices -- and he has a remarkable ability to do it all with a smile. So register now and bring your quandaries and your questions with you at 12:00 p.m. ET on Thursday. You'll return to your work wearing a smile, too.
