Enterprise Tablets as Notebook Replacements: Limited but Growing
Enterprise Efficiency Coursework
5/1/2013
The spectrum of available tablet form factors and functionality is growing and offering more options to users, but each still has some trade-offs, compared with a full-feature notebook. There will always be some percentage of users willing to accept tablet compromises in order to avoid carrying a full-size notebook. However, in most cases, these devices are used as notebook companions rather than full notebook replacements. Windows 8 tablets certainly come closer to providing full notebook functionality than iPads and other media tablets, but there are still trade-offs with the Windows 8 tablets.

This Gartner report explains the scalability and manageability of Windows 8 devices as notebook replacements.

Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in its research publications, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors with the highest ratings. Gartner research publications consist of the opinions of Gartner's research organization and should not be construed as statements of fact. Redefine Your Exchange 2010 Audit Strategy
Enterprise Efficiency Coursework
1/25/2013

Exchange 2010 has redefined the way activities of interest can be logged. Unlike Exchange 2007, which uses the Windows SACL entries for configuring auditing and the security event log for viewing audit events, Exchange 2010 uses mailboxes to store audit entries. While these auditing improvements are excellent for ad-hoc auditing, larger organizations with more ongoing auditing requirements will find that audit configuration, data consolidation and reporting require custom scripts.

Download “Exchange 2010 and Your Audit Strategy” to understand activities that should be considered priority auditing activities, such as:

  • Changing administrative security groups
  • Providing access to “Key Mailboxes”
  • Changing membership of “Key Distribution Lists” to distribute important and sensitive e-mail

Implementing Compliance the Old-Fashioned Way
Enterprise Efficiency Coursework
1/25/2013

The concepts of regulatory compliance, centralized policy management, and compliance auditing have not been around that long, and until very recently, they really applied only in specific scenarios like banking and government data classification. Today, most corporations and government entities are required to adhere to multiple overlapping requirements around business policies, data handling, and more. And because of technology’s reach into virtually every aspect of the modern workplace, IT is hit hard by compliance requirements.

Download “Compliance Is Easy When You Do It in Advance” to learn how to make great IT decisions, based on a few key elements, including:

  • Immediate Reaction—Does this decision “feel” right based solely on the information at hand?
  • Return on Investment (ROI)—How much is the company spending and how much will the company recoup based on this decision?
  • Legal Liability—Could I go to jail, face penalties, or be put out of business based on this decision?

Download this white paper to learn how to achieve regulatory compliance by auditing access to critical systems and detecting inappropriate or suspicious access-related events.

Transaction-Centric vs. Infrastructure Centric Application Performance Management
Enterprise Efficiency Coursework
1/25/2013

One of the key market trends driving the adoption of solutions of transaction-centric application performance management is the emergence of modern application architectures. However, managing these applications requires a new set of capabilities, and organizations using multi-tier applications are more likely to take a transaction-centric approach for APM, as compared to their peers.

Download “Transaction-Centric vs. Infrastructure Centric Application Performance Management” to be aware of the following points as you evaluate APM solutions:

  • An optimal approach for APM is determined by specific requirements of end users
  • Solutions for transaction-centric APM are more effective in managing complex, multi-tier applications
  • End-to-end visibility into application transaction allows organizations to establish a common language between different IT domains and troubleshoot performance issues faster.
